World War 2 History - Heydrich Key Stage 2 educational interactive WW2 history for children.
World War 2 History - Key Stage 2 educational interactive WW2 history for children.: "One of Hitler's top men has been killed by former Czech soldiers, who were trained as assassins in a secret camp in Warwickshire. It has been revealed that preparations for the execution of Reinhard Heydrich took place at Moreton Paddox Refugee Camp, near Leamington Spa.
The War Times has learned that a secret camp in Warwickshire trained the two men who killed one of Hitler's most trusted lieutenants, Reinhard Heydrich, in May 1942.
The daring ambush and assassination was carried out by Jan Kubis and Josef Gabchick, who were amongst a group of 4,000 Czech soldiers who fled to England after Hitler took control of their country.
The two former soldiers had been living in a camp called Moreton Paddox, near Leamington Spa in Warwickshire, where they were trained to carry out the daring plan.
Kubis and Gabchick successfully parachuted into Prague and fatally injured the German lieutenant Heydrich, who was on his way to work.
It is believed that the two men managed to escape the German Gestapo at the scene of the assassination, but no word has been heard of them since and it is feared they have been captured and killed.
Friends of the two resistance fighters in Warwickshire say they had no idea that their friends had been training for this important secret mission and they described them as heroes.
It is believed that secret training may also be taking place at a second camp which took in some of the Czech soldiers at Cholmondley Castle, on the North Shropshire border."
